What is buckskin? It is generally fat and smoke tanned, hair off, grain off skin of deer, elk, moose, goat, sheep that is flexible in nature. It is made using natural materials, not chemicals that are common in the chemical tanning industry. Fats used to tan could include tallow, olive oil, egg yolks, brains, and soap, softened and smoked to finish. Buckskin was traditionally used as clothing worldwide long before the technology to make woven cloth en masse was accessible.
Come hang out, sew a pouch and learn buckskin sewing techniques and connect with others interested in sewing buckskin.
